Apples of gold under silvery snow

We have had much snow here, and I was curious to see how the little tree with the apples of gold was faring. ( See post 'Autumn ends with apples of gold'). Camera in waterproof wrap, I set off through the night blizzard.

The scene was transformed from russets and golds to silver, mauve and deep blue! And though it's branches were bowed under the weight of the snow, the tree still seemed to shine with an inner light. The snow stopped falling and all was still.

Our winter is certainly beautiful, Malyss, and the countryside a real inspiration.

From apples of gold to sparks of silver - that takes some doing. But you have captured natures artistic work; no, enhanced it.

Thank you RuneE! I like to see special glimpses of nature and celebrate them.

Beautiful photo - and I love your painting too. Can't wait to see the finished result!

Hope you're not TOO snow bound? We'd got 21 inches this afternoon, but more has come down since then - and I think you've got it worse than us!

Thank you Nutty Gnome!

It's unusually deep here too. Universities closing early, schools closed. Nice camaraderie among everyone shovelling!

It really is beautiful! I thought it was a painting at first too. I love how snow can transform trees into new works of art.

The secret language of snow and glittering ice.

Thank you Catherine! I've used Photoshop on the photo, as I do not have the photographic technical expertise to get the light and shade just with the camera on night-time shots.

Prospero, it is indeed a secret language; walking in the evening in the snow is like being permitted into a mysterious secret world!
