With delicate beauty and evening fragrance redolent of paradise ... Zaluzianskya!

Each flower so perfect, as if tenderly sculpted from the finest porcelain.

Tiny buds open as the evening sun bids farewell.

I had never seen Zaluzianskya before. The color reminds me of radish but the texture does resemble porcelain. Fascinating post with exquisite images!

Thank you Diane!

I first came across Zaluzianskya in a catalogue from Chiltern Seeds, who sell all kinds of unusual seeds.

I wish I could somehow put the perfume on the blog!!

I've never seen this flower before. I love the shape of the petals, very unusual.

These Zaluzianskya flowers are very exotic for me, as I have not seen them before either. Such beautiful petals. I wonder if they would grow in a colder climate (though by Canadian standards, southwestern Ontario is the banana belt of the country)

These are a real wow!

Good old Chiltern seeds. You're absolutely right, they've got an enormous variety of just about everything.

cheers
Rob

Glad you like it, Catherine. It may be available in your area in nurseries.

Barbara, I've just checked on Google for growing info - the Telegraph have a useful article:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/howtogrow/3302165/How-to-grow-Zaluzianskya.html
I grow mine in containers - and I can overwinter them outside too, even this last winter which was cold for us.

Thank you Rob. The Chiltern Seed catalogue is one of life's great temptations!

Thank you RuneE. I still do not see it around much, which is surprising.

Hi Phoenix, I can't wait for mine to bloom! I winter-sowed some night phlox (Zaluzianskya capensis) and it's come up as little seedlings. It didn't look half as cool on the website where I ordered the seeds, so I'm really looking forward to it growing.

Hi Monica, looking forward to seeing your growing seedlings!

Z. capensis was the first one I grew, with seeds from Chiltern Seeds. Used glasshouses to raise the seeds, so they came up well. With these Z. ovata I bought them as plants 3 years ago. They've flourished and survived three winters in containers on frosty doorstep!

Great pictures and a great plant. I've looked into it and think it will grow in Bermuda. This is going to the top of my list.

Thank you Prospero!

Looking forward to seeing photos of Zaluzianskya among your other beautiful images.

Thank you Dirt Princess! They are lovely plants in so many ways.

Oh, what gorgeous, delicate blooms. The foliage is so pretty also.

Phoenix C. said...

The foliage is aromatic too, Lona. It reminds me a little of the scent of marigold leaves.

What a beauty ! This is one that I've read about but never seen. Does it flower for long ?

Phoenix C. said...

Hi Anna! They flower through May and June, (if I remember to water!!). Sometimes I get a second flowering if I trim them back after the first have finished. The foliage looks pleasant, so when not in flower, I move the containers around so they act as foliage foil to other plants.

Thanks Phoenix - will have to dig the catalogues out :)

Looks like I'm going to have to get a Chiltern Seeds catalogue - these are WAY too beautiful to ignore! I NEED some in my garden!

Phoenix C. said...

You may be able to get some in a nursery, blooming for this year, Nutty Gnome. Of course you NEED some, now!! And the Chiltern catalogue for next year, to grow hundreds!
